The Ballard Bridge is one of four double-leaf bascule bridges that cross the Lake Washington Ship Canal. The ship canal connects Lake Washington with the Puget Sound. This bridge crosses over Salmon Bay in the Seattle neighborhood of Ballard.  Salmon Bay was once the winter safe haven for the the first inhabitants, the Shilshole tribe, followed by Scandinavian fishermen that settled in area the 1880’s.
